2017 HSC highlights

Central Coast Grammar School has again ranked in the Top 100 NSW schools based on this year's HSC results. Headmaster Bill Low said, “If we look beyond the academically selective schools on the list, this is a significant achievement. This is the fourth consecutive year that CCGS has ranked amongst the finest schools in the state.”

HSC Highlights

  • 15% of our students achieved an ATAR over 95
  • 30% achieved an ATAR over 90
  • 40% achieved an ATAR over 85
  • 57% achieved an ATAR over 80
  • 81% achieved an ATAR over 70
  • 42% of our students were noted on the NSW Education Standards Authority Distinguished Achievers list for achieving a Band 6 in 1 or more of their subjects.

 

Individual achievements

  • Samuel Wait and Jemma Smith were both named Dux of the school for 2017
  • Callan MacLeod and Jemma Smith were included on the NSW Education Standards Authority All Rounders list for achieving Band 6 in 10 or more units of study

ENCORE

ENCORE features a program of outstanding performances and compositions held annually at the Sydney Opera House. The following students received nominations:

OnSTAGE

OnSTAGE comprises a presentation and exhibition of group and individual performances by HSC Drama students. The following students received nominations:

  • Claire Welch
 
CALLBACK

Callback is a showcase of exemplary performances and compositions by HSC Dance students. The following students received nominations:

  • Isabella Salvo for her core performance
  • Lucy Kennard for her core performance
  • Lillian Murray for her core performance
  • Damon Wilson for his major study performance
  • Erika Brewin Higgins for her core performance, core composition and major study performance. Erika’s core composition piece was selected for CALLBACK and will be performed at the Seymour Centre in Term 1, 2018

 

Other achievements
  • Maya Soni has been accepted into the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA)
  • Kimberly Gilbert has been accepted into the Sydney Conservatorium of Music
  • Nicholas Anderson-Vine has received a full academic scholarship to Iowa Central Community College (USA)
  • Laura Farrelly has also been accepted into Marshall University in West Virginia (USA) on a four-year soccer scholarship
  • Damon Wilson has been offered a position at Brent Street Performing Arts

 

Head of Senior College, Denise McDonough, congratulated her students on their achievement and ongoing encouragement of each other. “Congratulations go to teachers and parents involved in supporting our Year 12 students through a successful final year. It was wonderful to see the excitement on the faces of so many students who came to me in the last weeks of school with the news of advanced placement positions in the university of their choice.”

“Sam Wait and Jemma Smith are testament to the academic and well-rounded education students receive at Central Coast Grammar School. Sam has received an Academic Achievement Awards (AAA) Scholarship to study Advanced Science and Engineering (dual Honours) at the University of New South Wales and is already working in research and development in an engineering firm in Sydney. Jemma is also riding a wave of success as Surf Life Saving Association Youth Athlete of the Year (2017) and recently won the first round of the Nutri-Grain Iron Woman Series for the 2017-18 season.”

“Students should feel a sense of accomplishment as many students went that extra mile with their studies but were always mindful of supporting each other and maintaining a healthy involvement and connection with the school. They are an asset to CCGS and we invite them back in the coming years to update us about their journey.”
