Jasmine Workman: Alumni profile

Jasmine Workman Marketing Manager at Facebook

You're a Marketing Manager at Facebook, when you graduated in 2002 Facebook didn't exist yet, tell us about your career path to this point and what it's like to work for a company/product that didn't even exist when you were at school?

I studied Communications at UTS and have worked in media / marketing since 2005. I started out doing work experience with "Sydney Weekender" and cruising around the Coast as a STAR104.5 FM "RoadStar" then moved into TV, with jobs at Foxtel, Channel 7, SBS and BSkyB in London and then I joined Facebook in 2015. I never really planned on working in Marketing and certainly never imagined working for Facebook!

You've worked in radio, TV and social media, what has been your favourite role?

On a personal level, I grew the most while I was at SBS. The passion of the people I worked with there, combined with the values of the organisation made it a special place. Pardon the pun.

Professionally, the innovation and the cultural relevance of working on Instagram and Facebook; seeing how people are exploring and expressing their passions as well as creating communities with these platforms is pretty mind-blowing.

What has the highlight of your career been to date?

It's the people I've met. Whether colleagues (and subsequent friends) I made in London or small business owners I've filmed while at Facebook, like Adam and Fiona from Buena Vista Farm in Gerringong… I've learned different things along the way.

What are you passionate about?

Good stories. They're relevant no matter what format they come in. Good food. Family.

So, maybe eating good food while with family, reading, listening to or watching a good story…

What is one piece of advice you would give to your high school self?

How about three?

  • If you wear great sneakers, you get more done in a day.
  • Ask a lot of questions.
  • Be nice to people.
