Math whizzes honoured

Samuel Wolstenholme (Year 6) came first in the Hunter Region and Tom Borg (also Year 6) was announced Central Coast District winner in the 2016 Newcastle Permanent Math Competition.

The Newcastle Permanent Primary Maths Competition is a very difficult competition for high-achieving Mathematicians in Years 5 and 6. This year almost 19,000 students from 337 schools across the Hunter, Northern and Western regions had the opportunity to test their numeracy and problem-solving skills in this annual competition. Different from other exams, this competition challenges students to complete the exam paper without using calculators, rulers or other mathematical instruments.

Overall our results were outstanding. 86% of Central Coast Grammar School students’ achieved either a High Distinction or a Distinction, performing in the top 15% of students that entered the competition.
