Recently, six students and two teachers joined young people from around the world at the Round Square International Conference, for an inspiring week spend connecting, collaborating, and exploring what it means to be a globally minded citizen.
Students from 30 countries and 153 schools converged at Barker College for the conference, whose theme – ‘Visions of the Future from an Ancient Land’ – invited attendees to discover how our country’s rich cultural heritage can inform our shared vision for the future.
The experience was a powerful reminder of all that our education can offer beyond the classroom, and throughout the conference, our teachers found it incredibly rewarding to watch their students exchange ideas and build international friendships.
Throughout the week, delegates also completed 1,144 challenges, contributed 2,400 hours of community service, and collectively, walked an extraordinary 75 million steps. They shared 30,000 meals together, and in a distinctly Aussie touch, also consumed 3,500 Tim Tams throughout the event.
Impressively, our students were part of the winning team in the conference’s Urban Challenge, which required participants to navigate the city and work together to tackle a series of tasks.
We are proud to be pursuing membership with Round Square – an international community of more than 280 schools in 50 countries, united by a commitment to character education and experiential learning.
For our students, the conference brought these values to life, and this is just the beginning. As we continue our Round Square journey, we look forward to creating further opportunities for our students to become compassionate, curious and courageous young people, who are equipped to make a positive difference in their communities and beyond.
