We are pleased to announce the engagement of specialist Technical Directors across our rugby, tennis, netball, touch football, basketball, cricket and football sporting programs, in a new approach designed to further support the athletic development of students from Kindergarten to Year 12.
Each of our specialist Directors brings with them extensive career experience and a high-performance perspective, representing a significant investment in our School’s co-curricular program and a genuine commitment to creating opportunities for ‘access, excellence and agency’ for every student, as outlined in our latest Strategic Plan 2025–2030.
In celebrating the appointments, our School’s Headmaster, Mr Phil O’Regan, highlighted the important role sport plays in developing student character, leadership and wellbeing.
“We know participation in sport is essential for the development of personal character and wellbeing. Being a member of a team throughout your school years teaches powerful lessons, and provides you with some of the most authentic opportunities to learn resilience, communication, empathy and leadership.
“These appointments come following thoughtful feedback from our School community that highlighted a desire for greater investment in sport, and reflects our commitment to continually enhancing the opportunities we provide for our students.
“Our current coaching staff is comprised of student, parent and community coaches, and we are grateful for their enthusiasm, experience and expertise. The introduction of our Technical Directors will allow us to provide specialist coach education and student training opportunities, and many of our students have already benefited from their skills and knowledge during the winter sporting season,” Mr O’Regan said.
Head of School Administration, Systems and Co-Curricular Operations, Mr Tim Gardiner, added that the introduction of Technical Directors reflects our School’s ongoing commitment to excellence across its co-curricular programs.
“Our robust co-curricular program plays a vital role in our students’ education, and provides opportunities for them to discover new interests, build confidence, develop character, and pursue their personal best beyond the classroom.
“The appointment of our Technical Directors is an important investment in that vision and ensures students can enjoy a sporting experience that supports both participation and performance,” Mr Gardiner said.
The School’s Instructional Coach, Mr Liam Cole, will also oversee the program, ensuring a cohesive and consistent approach to coaching, player development, and a general uplift of sporting culture across the School.
Central Coast Grammar School’s new Technical Directors for its sporting programs are:
Basketball: Mr Kurt Hayward
Mr Hayward has worked across both elite and emerging sporting pathways, including roles within NBL1 and junior representative basketball programs. Offering a well-rounded and highly practical philosophy to athletic development, he has also supported the development of Division 1 collegiate basketball athletes in the United States.
Rugby: Mr Max Malkin
A World Rugby coach educator, trainer, and a teacher with nearly 20 years of experience, Mr Malkin is currently an Associate Lecturer in Education at the University of Newcastle, where he is completing a PhD evaluating rugby union coaching practices and the implications for coach education. Mr Malkin is also the current First Grade Coach of Avoca RFC, and in his previous teaching role, he held positions such as Head of Representative Sport, Head of Rugby Union, and Head of House Sport.
Netball: Ms Gimanama Crowdy
A Head Coach, coach developer, selector and mentor, Ms Crowdy holds 17 international coaching caps. An accredited Elite Coach with Netball Australia, she has extensive playing experience both domestically and internationally.
Tennis: Mr Mikie Boddy
With over 25 years of coaching experience within the tennis industry across the world, Mr Boddy was formerly appointed as Head Tennis Professional at the Royal Sydney Golf Club, Centre Manager and Head Coach at Artarmon Tennis, and as High-Performance Tennis Coach at the Sydney International Tennis Centre. In an educational setting, he has prior experience at both Newington College and The King’s School.
Cricket: Mr Jamie Brown
Mr Brown is an ex-Sydney 1st Grade Cricket All-Rounder who played for Sutherland District Cricket Club. With 10 years of coaching experience, including in specialist one-on-one coaching, Mr Brown supports young players to improve their skills whilst also understanding the pathway to play the game at its highest level.
Touch Football: Ms Erika Stoddard
Ms Stoddard has been playing touch football for over 16 years, including as a Premier League player with the Central Coast Dolphins, and as a Hunter Western Hornets Representative. Ms Stoddard is the current Head Coach of the Central Coast Under 16 Girls representative team.
Football: Mr Jakob Moulds
Mr Moulds has worked with young people of all ages at Rose Football Academy since 2017, and has also coached at multiple tournaments across the state, including the Sydney International Cup. Mr Moulds is passionate about creating engaging learning environments for players and supporting coaches to create consistent development across all age groups. Mr Moulds holds both a Football Australia ‘C’ Diploma and a Diploma of Sport through the Australian College of Sport.
