“There is more in us than we know. If we can be made to see it, perhaps for the rest of our lives, we will be unwilling to settle for less.” – Round Square
Central Coast Grammar School is proud to be pursuing membership with Round Square: an international community of over 280 schools in 50 countries that collaborate on character education through six themes called the Round Square IDEALS.
Pursued through these six IDEALS – International Understanding, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure, Leadership and Service – Round Square schools believe that many of life’s most important lessons come from practical experience.
Round Square schools use experiential learning to help shape and build student capacity to make a positive difference in the world as globally-minded, courageous and compassionate leaders, which strongly aligns with our School’s philosophy of preparing students who live and learn with good character and practical wisdom.
In sharing and comparing their different approaches, Round Square membership also allows our School to be inspired by other institutions, and identify new ways to build character and realise potential in our students.
Our students have already begun participating in Round Square programs that enrich their communication skills and foster new perspectives.
A recent online Study Lab allowed our Year 12 Extension History students to become part of a lively discussion with colleagues from around the world, and a group of students from Year 6 and Year 8 also travelled to Redlands for a World Ocean Day event promoting sustainability, marine conservation and student action (pictured above).
In addition, in celebration of Round Square’s 60th anniversary, our students have been performing ‘60 Acts of Kindness’ – checking in on their friends, picking up litter, visiting local nursing homes, and assisting their teachers in class.
Later this year, a group of students will also travel to the Round Square International Conference. Held at Barker College in Sydney, it’s an event that will bring together 1,200 students and teachers from Round Square Schools across the globe for a celebration of culture, connection, leadership and character.
