Junior School
Kindergarten to Year 2
Laying the foundations for next generation learners and nurturing curiosity, confidence and character from the very start.
Kindergarten to Year 2
Welcome from the
Head of Junior School
It is a privilege to welcome our youngest learners and their families to the start of their educational journey.
Kindergarten to Year 2 is a time of wonder, growth and discovery, and we are dedicated to making these early years a joyful and rewarding experience.
We provide a safe, nurturing environment where children feel secure and valued. Our teachers take the time to understand each child, helping them settle into school life with confidence.
Strong foundations in literacy and numeracy are carefully built through engaging and hands-on experiences. At the same time, children are encouraged to play, explore, ask questions and create, all of which lay the groundwork for a lifelong love of learning.
We believe that education in the early years is about more than skills. It is about building character, fostering curiosity and giving children the confidence to embrace every opportunity ahead.

REALISE THEIR POTENTIAL
Personalised
learning
We celebrate individuality through a personalised approach that nurtures confidence, curiosity and pride in achievement.
By understanding each child’s strengths, interests and learning style, we design experiences that are responsive, flexible and future-focused. Lessons adapt to children’s energy, curiosity and readiness, allowing them to explore, discover and grow with purpose.
Students are empowered to take ownership of their learning, set ambitious goals, and celebrate the milestones that build motivation, resilience and self-belief. Tailored guidance ensures every child feels supported to embrace challenges, try new things, and realise their potential.
In this nurturing and stimulating environment, children develop the confidence, skills and mindset to thrive not only in their early years, but for the journey ahead.
EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Reaching their
potential in Junior School
In Kindergarten to Year 2, educational excellence begins with the intentional cultivation of strong learning foundations.
Our literacy and numeracy programs are designed to meet each child where they are, informed by a deep understanding of their individual learning profile, and guided by a commitment to helping them realise their full potential.
We spark curiosity through hands-on learning, nurturing in each child the confidence and resilience to persist even when challenges arise. These early years form the stepping stones for future success throughout Junior School and beyond. Our students explore rich conceptual understandings and bring them to life through deep, experiential learning.
Their journey is shaped by a thoughtful balance between acquiring essential knowledge and developing the skills that empower them to learn with independence and purpose.

Kindergarten to Year 2 Curriculum
Designed to
spark curiosity
The Kindergarten to Year 2 curriculum is designed for discovery, combining structure with exploration.
Children master early literacy and numeracy while enjoying specialist lessons in Music, Sport, Languages and Creative Arts.
Inquiry-based projects and play-based activities allow children to investigate, collaborate and learn from the world around them. Every subject becomes an opportunity to build curiosity, joy and confidence in learning.
Literacy
Our youngest learners are immersed in a rich literacy environment. Through engaging reading and writing programs, they develop the confidence to communicate clearly and creatively. Weekly library sessions with specialist teachers nurture a love of books, strengthen information skills and foster inquiry-based learning.
Numeracy
Mathematics comes alive through hands-on activities, games, digital tools and visual aids. Children learn to see patterns, solve problems and apply mathematical thinking in meaningful, practical ways.
Creative and performing arts
- Art: Taught by specialist teachers from Kindergarten, students explore a wide range of media in a dedicated art room, including clay in our purpose-built kiln. Creative work often links to classroom themes, building imagination and higher-order thinking.
- Music: Specialist music teachers introduce children to rhythm, melody and movement (60 minutes per week). Classes draw on Kodály and Orff philosophies, with opportunities to sing, play instruments, and create their own music.
- Drama and Dance: New for 2026 – As part of our Sports lessons, specialist teachers introduce students to the fundamentals of Drama and Dance, learning to express themselves through movement.
Languages
Children begin French from Kindergarten (30 minutes per week), with lessons taught by specialist teachers. Learning is interactive and cultural, encouraging enjoyment as well as understanding.
Sport and physical education
Physical development is woven into school life. Students enjoy:
- Fortnightly Health lessons (60 minutes) and weekly PDHPE lessons (60 minutes) with specialist staff.
- House Sport carnivals in swimming, athletics and cross country.
- A weekly rotation of sport games with classroom teachers to build team spirit and confidence.
Outdoor Education begins with the Infants Camp (K to 2), preparing children for the broader program of camps in later years.
Science and Technology
Children foster curiosity about the natural and built world through engaging inquiry-based lessons. Digital literacy is introduced early, helping students learn to use technology responsibly and creatively.
History and Geography
From their own family stories to understanding local and global communities, children explore culture, place and heritage. Indigenous culture and history are introduced from the earliest years.
Learning across the curriculum
Themes such as rainforests or cultural identity weave together Literacy, Numeracy, Science, History, Art and Music, making learning dynamic and connected.
DEVELOPING EMOTIONAL STRENGTH
Wellbeing in
Junior School
Wellbeing underpins everything in the early years, ensuring children feel safe, happy and connected as they begin their school journey.
By creating a nurturing environment where every child feels a strong sense of belonging, we help students start school with confidence and curiosity.
Working closely with families, we support a smooth and positive transition into school life, helping children settle quickly and build strong relationships with their teachers and peers. From the earliest years, students also become part of a House Family, creating a sense of identity and connection across the wider school community.
With wellbeing at the centre, children develop resilience, confidence and the emotional strength to embrace new experiences. Even our youngest learners are encouraged to lead through service, showing kindness, responsibility and care for others.
