Let's Get Social

1 Friendship, hugs, pride, entertainment, muffins and gifts made this morning a very special community celebration. Generations of mothers caught up with friends, visited classrooms, and enjoyed entertainment from our upcoming production of The Addams Family. During the week students chose gifts at the P&F gift stall created by generous parent volunteers. What a buzz! #mothersday #centralcoastgrammarschool #centralcoastnsw #community
1 Lots of smiles when Kindergarten joined their House Families today, becoming part of this unique feature of CCGS life, where students are connected across K to Year 12 in family groups that meet weekly and stay together throughout their school years. They were collected from class by Year 12, spent time getting to know their House Family, and received their House badge at full House meetings. Go Acacia, Banksia, Grevillea, Nicholii and Ironbark. #centralcoastgrammarschool #centralcoastnsw
1 Year 7 have been studying artist Lucy O’Doherty and this morning they planned and hosted a fun visit to find out more about her life and work. Lucy works with oil paint and soft pastels to create dreamlike interpretations of landscapes, isolated dwellings and vacant interiors. The personal connection was evident in the artworks underway later in the day. Thanks @lucy_odoherty #centralcoastgrammarschool #centralcoastnsw
0 Expert visitors are helping Year 3 students take a deep dive into school pond life this term. The Director of Quality and Safety at the National Measurement Institute, shared how scientists investigate, using their senses to make observations and their curiosity to develop deeper questions which they collaborate in teams to answer. “Focusing learning on our very own school pond creates a very real connection to students’ everyday lives,” said teacher Bronwyn Donnelly, who developed this cross curricular deep learning program alongside her colleague Natalie Kell. “It’s exciting for students to work with different experts, then apply their learning to the world around them.” So far, our young scientists have been photographing the pond, learning about the different life forms that call it home, and understanding the healthy environment they need to survive. This week they hope to move on to pond dipping. Curious minds thrive here! #schoolscience #centralcoastgrammar #centralcoastnsw
1 Can you believe these groovy artworks were created by 9 and 10 year olds? Our specialist Art teachers introduced Year 4 to the theme "Anthropomorphic Cats and Dogs" (sounds like an English lesson too!) exposing them to various artists. Sketching ideas in pencil first, they developed their designs in fine markers and coloured pencil, then had fun cutting out their final concepts and making decisions about which patterned background would best compliment their artwork. You can see more of their whimsical and unique artworks on display in reception. #anthropomorphicanimals #humorousdesign #humorousdesigns #centralcoastgrammarschool #centralcoastgrammarschool ##centralcoastnswcentralcoastnsw
